Essex 2020, a year of creativity through arts and science
You may or may not be aware that a number of things are happening in 2020 in Essex that gives rise to make it a year of celebration in relation to science and the arts. It is the 100th year anniversary of Marconi, the 400th year anniversary of the sailing of Mayflower and the 100th year anniversary of HMS Beagle. The catalyst for us thinking about 2020 was Anglia Ruskin University successfully landing the British Science Festival in September 2020, which is a prestigious event for them to host. The British Science Festival, which is Europe’s longest science festival, travels to different parts of the UK each year and will come to Essex for the first time in its 189th year history.
We are calling this year: Essex 2020 (a working title), a year of creativity through arts and science across Essex. It is an Essex-wide, year-long programme of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) events and activities.
Commissioned by Essex Partners, Essex 2020 will celebrate the county’s pioneering heritage through a collaborative programme of flagship events, exhibitions and projects. Our mission is to engage, motivate, challenge and inspire all those who live, work in and visit Essex. We aim to create new long-term partnerships and opportunity in the understanding of, and access to, STEAM learning and business investment in Essex – throughout and beyond 2020.
To help ensure we can attract as wide an audience as possible to get involved, we’d love your feedback on our marketing and design concepts. If you have 10 minutes to spare, please do give us your views this week via this short survey.
